Goodrich Supports SMCC Engineering Students

On a beautiful April morning, the Goodrich Foundation made SMCC's Engineering Department a little MORE beautiful---with a gift of $25,000 to the Maricopa Foundation, specifically earmarked for development of a new engineering class here at South Mountain.

The check presentation was attended by Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and was a highlight of this spring's annual "Be An Engineer" Day, coordinated by Dr. Tim Frank. Also featured were the ever-popular student catapult and robotics competitions, and many, many free pizzas!

Pictured are: Jerry Holden, Legal Counsel, Goodrich Interiors; Kelly Chopus, Director, Community Relations, Goodrich Foundation; Mark Robertson, Vice President, Goodrich Interiors Engineering & Quality; Steve Schenk, Executive Vice President/CEO, Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation; and Helen Smith, Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, SMCC.

Eat and Great with HLC Team

South Mountain Community College is accredited with the Higher Learning Commission, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

• Accreditation means that the classes you take at SMCC will be recognized by other
colleges and universities---and your future employers.
• It means your credits will continue to transfer… and it enables SMCC students to receive financial aid.
• It means you can be guaranteed to receive a quality education at South Mountain
Community College.

A college’s HLC accreditation must be renewed every ten years…
and SMCC’s renewal is taking place this spring.
• On APRIL 6 – 8, a team of evaluators from across the nation will visit SMCC and “grade” our college.
• The team will review and evaluate our commitments to…
◊ student learning and effective teaching
◊ planning for the future
◊ engagement and service to our community, and
◊ our mission and integrity.

We want to hear from YOU!
